Hydration is often the difference between survival and death in the backcountry. Renowned for their wilderness products, MSR wanted to design the best water filtration system on the market.



With weight and time being of critical importance to survivalists, MSR set out to design a filter that empathized with their user base. The design was to deliver more water quicker than competitive products, while also reducing overall weight.

By utilizing hollow fiber technology MSR was able to develop a filter that achieved their goals, delivering three liters of clean water per minute in an 8oz package.

MSR leaned on i3's experienced analytical engineering team to dissect and optimize the housings designed to protect the hollow fibers. Simulated drop tests and transient dynamic FEA were utilized to ensure that the filters would never fail in a survival situation.
